John Borbi
MY STORY
MY STORY
In 1995, John began his journey as a financial advisor at a full financial services firm. He quickly gained a clientele and continued his rise as an investment expert within the company. This led to becoming the firm’s Investment Specialist and managing 140 investment advisors. John continued to grow his personal client list and would eventually manage close to $100 million in assets for his own clients.

John’s income grew from $28,000 in his first year to $500,000 seven years later; this dramatic rise of income would prove to be his downfall and lead to some poor ethical choices.

John fell into The Dark Side of Success and became engrossed in a world filled with pride, ego, greed and constant need for material items.

When the stock market fell in 2001, John began to cover his clients’ losses by transferring assets illegally and committing wire fraud. Within a 7 month period, John transferred close to $500,000 and was caught when his biggest client noticed the illegal transfers. This crime lead to a 30 month sentence in Federal prison which John served from 2004 – 2006 in West Virginia.

John’s life took an extreme turn and instead of living in a 4500 sq. ft. home, he lost everything and learned to live in a 40 sq. ft. space, sleep on a steel bed, and live off 12¢/hr in prison. The 2 years alone allowed him to spend countless hours stripping away the layers that had built up and he was given the chance to start life over again.

John returned a pariah, banned from the investment community forever, a felon who would always be looked at differently by others, having to rebuild his life financially, gain new friends, establish his credibility again, and tell his 2 young children where he had been for 2 years of their lives.

John is now sharing his mistakes with others, with the intent to help those hearing his story to make strong ethical choices and live each day without regrets.
